London Restaurants – humming
Just back from London and similar to Vancouver, the value oriented restaurants are humming. Walking down North of Regent St all the cafe’s, bars and pubs are heaving in the middle of the week. Go to Chinatown you cannot walk down Lisle St to get to a restaurant for all the people milling about.
But higher end gastropubs and fancy restaurants, I see are suffering and friends say the same. Went to the Chapel gastropub on Sunday, not a sole until after 7pm.. footy on but 3 sets of families came in and ate, but very quiet. The food a lovely cassoulet was great value at £12.50 but was a little expensive compared to my filling £15.00 all in chinese meal at a top Chinese (Imperial) restaurant.
Consumers want to go out just not to spend a bomb.
This is echoed by the rise in liquor sales for home consumption, people want a good time just not an expensive good time.
